I used ChatGPT Sites to turn a free flight API into FlightReady, a working mini SaaS for checking live flight updates. The video follows my FIND framework: discover a useful API, choose a focused product, narrow the MVP, build the first version, test it with real flights, fix delay logic and missing-data issues, then publish the app. You’ll see the four prompts, the real outputs, what ChatGPT Sites handled well, and where human review still mattered.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
This video is a practical build of FlightReady with ChatGPT Sites.
I started with Aviationstack’s free flight API, used my FIND framework to shape the product, narrowed it into one clear workflow, and built the first version with four prompts.
The initial app looked polished, but testing it with real flights exposed several problems:
- Missing departure delay and early-arrival calculations
- Incomplete details when one flight code returned multiple matches
- Missing gate data that needed a clearer fallback
- A generic logo that did not match the product
I described those exact issues to ChatGPT Sites, then tested the updated version again. FlightReady correctly calculated cross-midnight time differences, handled missing fields, improved route selection, and was published to a public URL.
The test also revealed a limitation outside the app: Aviationstack did not include every flight shown by the airport’s official website.
Curious to hear from you: what type of public API would you turn into a focused mini SaaS?
Comment “FIND” and I’ll send you the full prompts used in the video.
