I'm Sahen part of the team behind Ahonui. We built it out of two different fights.
I was a few pounds from 300 and had told myself I wouldn't cross that line. My friend was training for his first half-marathon and couldn't find an app that handled his meals, fasting and runs and also got him out the door instead of scrolling.
Every health app we tried asked nicely. Log it, look at your streak, hope it sticks. Then a notification, swiped away with the same thumb that opens Instagram.
So we stopped asking. No workout, no Instagram.
You pick a habit and the apps it gates (Instagram, TikTok, Uber Eats, whatever gets you). Until the habit is met, those apps sit behind an Apple Screen Time block. Ahonui reads movement, sleep, weight and meditation from Apple Health, so whatever already writes there works on day one: an Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura, Whoop, a smart scale, Strava, Nike Run Club, Peloton. Finish the workout and the block lifts on its own, with nothing to connect and nothing to log twice.
A few things we didn't expect to need:
- Unlock Apps in stages. Messages at 16 oz of water, YouTube at 32.
- A way out that costs something. A gem buys fifteen minutes, and your friends can troll you for it.
- Quests. Testing it on each other, we found competing kept us going as much as the blocks did. Join a public quest or start one with friends or coworkers: a leaderboard, a set number of days, a badge for whoever finishes.
- Bring the AI you already pay for. Ahonui works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any assistant that speaks MCP, at no extra cost. Tell it "had a poke bowl for lunch" or "start a 16-hour fast," or ask how your month went.
