I believe it is a form of theft. Advertisers paid to create the content you read. By removing banners in any way you become indistinguishable from a person who cheated and took a train ride without a ticket.
I see you responded to the comment about how it's different than ad block, instead of a blur could we have another option to put something else there all together since it's basically just client side (as far as I understand)? I could see maybe people putting their logo on where existing ads are or something else. This way the ad is still technically there without any possibilities of breaking the site (like you explained with ad blockers).
