ACTRA
Turn passive study into active recall & interactive practice
ACTRA is an open-source web platform where you can create custom study tasks (image hotspots, drawing, text checks), bundle them into complexes, practice with spaced repetition, and track your retention progress in one clean environment.
Hi hunters!
I’m Valerii, a practicing radiology intern.
In medicine, and especially in radiology, the volume of information you have to master is overwhelming. Textbooks, reference manuals, and anatomical atlases are massive. I quickly realized that passive reading and highlighting text was useless—information just evaporated from my brain within weeks. To actually learn, you need active recall, pattern recognition, and visual practice.
Standard flashcard apps are mostly limited to text input. Since 2022, I’ve been coding as a hobby with the help of AI. I decided to build a platform that solves this learning gap. That's how ACTRA was born.
ACTRA is an open-source web application designed to help you work with study materials:
1. Create Custom Tasks: Build standard quizzes, spatial clicks (hotspots on images), vector drawing/path tracing, or word-error checks.
2. Fuzzy Text Grading: Our backend rules-based engine handles typos (Levenshtein distance), stemming, and auto-corrects accidental keyboard layout entries.
3. Spaced Repetition (Microcards): Plan reviews dynamically based on memory health curves.
4. Integrated Theory: Bridge reading materials directly with practice sets.
ACTRA is 100% open source (Apache 2.0). I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on how we can improve. Try the web version or check out the code!
Let's make learning kinetic!
The way you bundle different task types into complexes instead of forcing everything into flashcards is a really thoughtful UX choice. Spaced repetition with image hotspots and drawing feels way more useful than yet another card app.
