Hey Product Hunt! Solo dev here 👋 The story behind this one is a bit silly. I'm a badminton player — and some months ago I got sick and was stuck at home with zero badminton. Out of boredom I opened a chess board. I'd only played a couple of games as a kid, badly. It hooked me within a week. I did what every adult beginner does: bought premium on the big chess sites, ran the lessons, reviewed every lost game. And hit a wall. Their review tells you "this was a mistake, the right move was Nf5" — but never WHY. What's the idea behind Nf5? What's the plan? Which of my pieces is bad and what am I even fighting for? An answer key is not a coach. So — chess YouTube. Great content, hundreds of hours of it. A month later I realized it was eating every evening and my rating had barely moved. Watching chess is not training chess. That's when the developer in me woke up. I wanted a trainer that takes you by the hand: explains every position in plain words, builds training out of YOUR OWN mistakes, and grows your understanding — not just your puzzle streak. I couldn't find one, so I've spent the last months building it. That's 99chess. What it can do today: 🧠 **An AI coach that talks like a human.** After your move it explains what it did, what the opponent's reply changed, and what the plan is now. Threats first, development second — like a real coach at the board. ♟️ **An engine that adapts to you.** It studies your games, plays at your strength (beginner to club level) and picks varied openings — a sparring partner, not an execution squad. 🧩 **Puzzles made from YOUR mistakes.** Positions where you actually went wrong become your puzzles, and spaced repetition brings each one back right before you'd forget it. 📈 **A personal training program.** Import your chess.com or lichess games by username — the coach finds the mistake that costs you the most rating points and builds a weekly theme around it. Everything above is free: no card, no trial timers, runs in the browser (mobile too). A free account is only needed so your progress has somewhere to live. I'd love brutal feedback — especially from adult improvers who started late like me, or from anyone stuck at the same rating for months.
