What has changed since the first launch 2 years ago:
- A Linux and macOS version was released in May 2022. Then, in June 2022, a faster, fully-featured, and wasm-powered web version was released that deprecated Windows, Linux, and macOS java-based versions
- Use of efficient compression has made cloud storage 33% cheaper
- A new extension called "Move" has been introduced that allows you to quickly move entire groups of people from branch to branch in a tree/organigram
- Group names can now be changed. This has been a tricky feature to develop because group names are cryptographically linked to their data. However, enough people requested this that it was finally done
- Stripe is now the default payment method and will (hopefully) replace Apple and Google in upcoming mobile versions, once it's legal. The reason why this is a good thing is that dealing with customer payment issues (refunds, etc) is a lot easier when you actually have a relationship with the customer and they are not hidden behind a gate keeper
- Google Cloud is no longer used. Everything is now self-hosted
Groups are fundamental structures that help organize and visualize relationships, hierarchies, and connections among various elements, whether they be individuals, concepts, or entities. Here, we'll explore six different types of groups, each serving a distinct purpose in organizing and understanding complex systems.
Organigrams:
An organigram, short for organizational diagram, is a graphical representation commonly used in businesses and institutions to display the hierarchical structure of an organization. It showcases the relationships and roles of individuals within the entity, making it easier to understand the chain of command and responsibilities within the organization. Organigrams are valuable tools for efficient communication, decision-making, and accountability.
Family Trees:
Family trees are a classic way to depict genealogical relationships among individuals in a family or lineage. They provide a visual representation of ancestry, illustrating the connections between generations, siblings, cousins, and more. Family trees help trace heritage, understand genetic inheritance, and maintain records of family history. They serve as a valuable tool for genealogists and historians.
Mind Maps:
Mind maps are a creative and flexible tool for visually organizing information, ideas, and concepts. They typically start with a central idea or topic and branch out into subtopics and related concepts, creating a tree-like structure. Mind maps are often used for brainstorming, project planning, and knowledge organization, as they help individuals visualize and connect various pieces of information in a non-linear and intuitive way.
Flowcharts:
Flowcharts are a type of diagram that represents a process or system through a series of shapes and arrows, depicting the flow of steps and decision points. They are widely used in various fields, including engineering, software development, and project management, to document processes, identify bottlenecks, and improve workflow efficiency. Flowcharts provide a clear, step-by-step visualization of complex processes.
Social Networks:
Social networks depict the relationships and connections between individuals or entities within a social or professional context. These networks can be used to analyze and visualize social interactions, identify key influencers, and understand the structure of a community or organization. In the digital age, social network analysis has become increasingly important for businesses, researchers, and social scientists.
Taxonomy Trees:
Taxonomy trees are hierarchical structures used to classify and categorize objects or concepts based on their characteristics and relationships. They are often employed in fields such as biology, library science, and information technology to organize and categorize data systematically. Taxonomy trees help simplify complex systems by breaking them down into manageable categories and subcategories.
These six types of groups—organigrams, family trees, mind maps, flowcharts, social networks, and taxonomy trees—serve distinct purposes in organizing, visualizing, and understanding diverse sets of information, from organizational structures to family histories to complex processes and relationships. Each type of group offers a unique way to make sense of the world around us, facilitating effective communication, decision-making, and knowledge management.
Congrats on the launch! 🎉 I'm also interested in knowing how it handles the sensitive info & documents

6 Groups was hunted by Javier Anton. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
