The idea for 5BelowQR came from a frustrating conversation with a friend who runs a small food truck. She had QR codes printed on hundreds of menus pointing to her
weekly specials. When she cancelled her QR service to cut costs, every single one of those codes went dead overnight — menus she'd already printed and handed out.
That's the dirty secret of QR code services. They charge $35+/month, and the moment you stop paying, your codes die. For a big company that's a rounding error. For a food truck, a restaurant, or a small event planner, it's a hostage situation.
I wanted to build something dead simple — same dynamic QR codes, editable destination URLs, scan analytics, SVG/PNG downloads — at a price that doesn't require a board meeting to justify. I made plans start at $0.99/month up to 4.99.
