The idea came from a very ordinary evening: my partner and I spent 40 minutes scrolling separately on two different couches trying to pick a movie, and only later realised one of us had just had a terrible day.
Nothing was wrong between us, we just weren't noticing each other. When we looked at couples apps, most of them were a deck of questions or a "days together" counter. Fun for a week, then forgotten. What we actually needed was something that knew how we were both doing and helped with the small daily stuff: what to say, what to do on Friday, what to watch tonight. So we built one place for the whole relationship.
We deliberately skipped the bare-bones MVP: a couples app gets one shot, and if it feels half-baked, both partners delete it. So we tested with friends and ran user interviews. We planned to lead with the AI coach, but people got excited about small daily rituals: mood check-ins, picking a movie together, Friday date ideas. So we rebuilt the app around those moments.
