When I was 28, I was head-down in work. Building a career, chasing the next thing, telling myself that "later" would always come. My grandmother was 75 then. I'd visit her maybe twice a year, promise myself I'd see her more "next month," and put it off again.
Then one day she got sick. Not long after, she was gone.
What broke me wasn't only the loss. It was the math I should have done years earlier. If I'd visited even once every two months, that would have been thirty more times in those last five years. I had the time. I just didn't see the number.
