ytclip
Self-hosted YouTube clipper. Source quality. No cloud.
ytclip is a self-hosted web app and CLI for creating clips from YouTube videos — at the highest available quality, without touching a cloud service. Paste a YouTube URL, drag the in/out handles on the embedded player, choose your format, and download. That's it. Everything runs on your own machine.

Hey PH! 👋 I built ytclip because I kept running into the same problem: I'd find a 90-second moment in a 3-hour YouTube video, and getting that clip at full quality without downloading the whole file or using a sketchy online converter was surprisingly painful. The core insight was combining yt-dlp's DASH segment fetching with ffmpeg's stream-copy mode — you only pull the bytes you actually need, and you don't lose any quality in the trim. For most YouTube videos, that means a fraction of the bandwidth of downloading the full file. I've been using it daily for a few months. It started as a personal tool but I cleaned it up enough to share. Docker, pip, and Homebrew are all available — it's designed to be easy to self-host even if you've never run a server before. Happy to answer any questions in the comments. GitHub is at https://github.com/ZeeshanJan/yt... and the site is at https://ytclip.xyz.
