Maker here. I built YTAudioBar because I wanted to listen to podcasts, lectures, and music from YouTube without keeping a browser tab open just for audio — that tab load its full video decoder, ads, and RAM/battery cost for something I wasn't even watching.
It started as a Windows/Linux tray app. Since the first Product Hunt launch, the biggest changes are: full macOS support (native menu bar app, not a port), YouTube playlist search and import (not just single tracks), and a big performance pass — replaced polling with backend-pushed events, unified the whole audio pipeline on ffmpeg, and added 170+ tests across the frontend and backend.
It's built with Tauri + Rust, MIT licensed, completely free with no ads or limits. Happy to answer anything about the architecture or what's next on the roadmap.
