I built Youtube Music Together because the only way my friends and I could listen to the same song "together" was the old countdown: "3, 2, 1, press play". It never lined up, and one of us was always half a second ahead.
How it works: open YouTube Music, click the headphones button in the corner, create a room and send the link. Whoever opens it joins your room instantly. Play, pause, skip, seek and the queue are shared by everyone.
A few things I obsessed over:
• Sync that doesn't drift: every playback event carries the server's clock, and each client corrects for its own clock offset.
• Rooms that survive real life: reconnects, sleeping laptops, background tabs and YouTube Music Premium's gapless playback.
• Zero friction: no account, no sign-up, 14 languages, free.
It's free on Chrome and Edge today, and the Firefox version is in review.
