youmegle
Talk to strangers without turning your camera on
youmegle is random 1-on-1 chat in the browser: Omegle-style, but the camera is off by default and stays optional. You can hold an entire conversation in text and turn video on only if you decide to. It is built for people who want the contact without the pressure of being on webcam and getting skipped all night. No app, no download, 18+ with an age check at entry, and a randomized planet identity instead of your face.

Hi PH 👋 I kept noticing the same complaint about Omegle-style sites: people miss talking to strangers, but they don't miss being looked at. Every site in the category starts by asking for your webcam, and then you spend the night being skipped by people who decided in half a second. So I built youmegle around the opposite default. Your camera starts off. It stays optional. You can have an entire conversation in text and turn video on only if you actually want to — and if you never do, that's a normal way to use it, not a degraded one. A few things that fell out of that decision: • Identity is a randomized planet, not your face. Your region is only visible to people from your own country. • Adults only, with an age check at the door. This is deliberately not a camming product. • It runs in the browser. No app, no download, no store. It's built solo and bootstrapped, on Vue and native WebRTC. The hard part isn't the tech, it's the cold start — a chat product is worthless when nobody's on the other side — so I'd genuinely love feedback on that: if you opened it and the pool was thin, what would make you come back at a set time instead of leaving?
