Workshop Calc

Offline machinist calculators for real shop work

Workshop Calc brings metal weight, unit and fraction conversion, tap drills, threads, bolt circles, chamfers, feeds and speeds, measurement over wires, and job records into one local-first iPhone and iPad app. It works without an account or ads, and core calculations are free with an optional one-time Pro unlock. Results are estimates; verify critical work against standards, manufacturer data, and qualified professionals.

Hi Product Hunt — I built Workshop Calc because shop work often means bouncing between separate calculators, reference charts, and notes while trying to keep the actual job moving. I wanted one local-first toolkit that stays useful even when connectivity is poor and does not require an account or advertising. The app combines everyday metal and machining calculations with material references and job records on iPhone and iPad. We also published a set of browser-based calculators so people can try the workflow before installing the app. The biggest design challenge has been balancing speed with responsible outputs. Workshop Calc treats results as estimates, adds guardrails around sensitive exports, and reminds users to verify critical work against standards, manufacturer data, and qualified professionals. I would especially value feedback from machinists, fabricators, metalworkers, and workshop learners: which calculation do you reach for most often, and what would make it faster in the middle of a real job?
