Workout Pledge

Miss a workout, pay a penalty. Hit your goal, get paid.

Pledge how many days a week you'll work out (1–7) and put $10–$100 per missed day on the line. Workouts verify automatically through Apple Health — walks, lifting, yoga, pickleball all stack toward 30 minutes a day, no check-ins or selfies. Hit your goal and you're charged nothing; the penalties from everyone who missed are split among the winners as points you can redeem for Amazon gift cards or donate to a nonprofit. Rolling weekly pledges you can start any day. Live on iOS.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Vadym, the solo founder of Workout Pledge. The problem: every fitness app is built around earning something — streaks, badges, points. But the research is clear that we work about twice as hard to avoid losing $10 as we do to earn $10 (Kahneman & Tversky's loss aversion). I kept skipping workouts I'd "planned," and no badge was ever going to fix that. What it does: you pledge how many days a week you'll work out (1–7) and set a per-miss penalty ($10–$100). Every day you hit 30 minutes of any activity that lands in Apple Health counts — walks, lifting, yoga, pickleball all stack. Miss a committed day, you pay the penalty. Hit your goal, you pay nothing, and the penalties from everyone who missed get split among the winners as points you can redeem for Amazon gift cards or donate to a nonprofit. How it's different from Pact / StepBet / Forfeit: • No check-ins, no selfies. Workouts sync from Apple Health automatically, and App Attest keeps the data honest. • The penalty is per missed day, not a flat weekly fee — a 6/7 week hurts less than a 2/7 week. • Rolling weekly pledges you can start any day and adjust every week. Built for years, not a 30-day challenge. • Friends can see your week and poke you when you go quiet. Why me: I spent nine years in property management and IT, and I built this because it's the only thing that's kept me consistent. It's live on iOS today (Android waitlist is open). The economics, plainly: 50% of penalties fund the winners' pool, 50% keeps the lights on. It's a skill-based program, not gambling — you only ever "lose" by choosing not to show up. I'd love to hear: 1. What penalty amount would actually get you off the couch? 2. Would you rather cash out points or donate them? 3. What device do you track with? Trying to prioritize integrations. I'll be here all day answering everything.

Who hunted Workout Pledge?

Workout Pledge was hunted by Vadym Samoylov. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
