Why I built this
I spend my days coding with AI agents. Every prompt means a few minutes/hours of watching a spinner, and I kept filling that time with doomscrolling. AI made me way faster, but coding also got really quiet and lonely.
What Whilely does
When Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Gemini CLI starts thinking, a small notch drops down at the top of your screen. It puts you on a live 1:1 video call with another developer who's waiting too. When your agent finishes, the notch tells you and you get back to work.
How it changed along the way
The first version was a website, but nobody remembers to open a tab in the middle of a prompt. So I moved it into a Mac app that shows up by itself when an agent starts running, and then built it for Windows too. I did all of it in one weekend.
Privacy
Whilely only checks whether your agent is running and whether it's still thinking. It never reads your code or your prompts. There's no AI inside, just people.
