Find where a photo was taken—and see why
Upload a photo or screenshot and get likely places, confidence, visual clues and a map you can verify—even when EXIF is missing. Free analysis needs no account.
Hi Product Hunt — I’m Ray, the independent builder behind whereisthisplace.online.
I kept seeing the same frustrating loop: someone has a photo, Google Lens returns lookalikes, the GPS is already gone, and a general chatbot gives one very confident answer without showing what it actually saw.
So I built the location finder I wanted to use:
- upload a photo or screenshot;
- see ranked candidate places and confidence;
- inspect the visual clues behind the result;
- open a map and try to disprove it yourself;
- get a clear low-evidence result when the photo cannot support a responsible location claim.
The free result is available without an account. You only see an optional paid unlock after the system has enough evidence to offer deeper proof such as an exact pin and Street View comparison.
I also added browser-only EXIF viewing and metadata removal because finding a place and protecting your own location data are two sides of the same problem.
I would especially value feedback on three things:
1. Does the evidence make the answer easier to trust?
2. Is the difference between a candidate and an exact pin clear?
3. Which kind of photo should I test next?
Try it with a photo that has been bothering you. Difficult misses are genuinely useful feedback.
