The idea for WebVidra was born out of sheer frustration. When I was looking for a way to host my photography portfolio, I realized the website builder market is basically split into two camps, and both had major disadvantages:
- The Free Ones: They are often clunky, restrictive, and (most annoyingly) you never really own your website files.
- The Fancy Ones: They are beautiful and feature-rich, but they lock you into a "walled garden" with expensive, never-ending monthly subscriptions.
I just wanted a lightning-fast, clean portfolio where I actually owned the files. So, I took matters into my own hands and started writing Python scripts to generate my photography website locally.
The scripts worked so well that I realized other creatives—photographers, artists, and designers—could really benefit from this approach. I decided to package those scripts into a full-fledged, user-friendly desktop app. Enter WebVidra.
