I'm Rahul, an indie developer, and I'd love to share a lesson I learned while building and launching this app.
I launched AI Water Tracker about 20 days ago and so far it has only received a handful of installs. Looking back, I think one of my biggest mistakes was focusing too much on the term "AI" in my App Store Optimization.
The app includes a feature that can scan drinks and foods to estimate water intake automatically, so I heavily targeted AI-related keywords. The result was unexpected. My app started appearing for searches that had nothing to do with hydration, including things like AI watermark remover. It was funny at first, but it made me realize my ASO strategy was attracting the wrong audience.
Today I completely reworked the ASO and submitted an update for review. Now I'm waiting to see whether better keyword targeting improves organic discovery. I'm not running paid ads at the moment because I want to understand organic growth before investing in acquisition.
The app focuses on five core features:
• AI-powered drink and food scanning to estimate hydration intake
• Personalized daily water goals
• Smart reminders designed to be helpful instead of annoying
• Streaks, history, and progress tracking
• Home screen widgets and health data sync
Building the app was challenging, but getting people to discover it has been much harder.
