I built VoltType because I kept hitting the same wall with dictation software on Windows.
The tools that existed were either cloud-only — everything you say goes to a server somewhere; heavy — RAM-hungry to the point they slowed down the machine I was trying to dictate on; or static — they never got better at understanding how I speak.
The core problem with cloud-only dictation isn't just privacy in the abstract. It's that if you dictate anything real — client calls, medical notes, legal summaries, personal writing — you're trusting a third party with every word. That felt like the wrong default.
So here's what VoltType does differently:
1. Full offline mode on Pro. Audio processed locally using whisper.cpp. Nothing sent, nothing stored on a server. It's not a setting buried in a menu — it's the point.
