Vocabulary Whiz

Tinder for words, with a memory that lasts

It's Tinder for new words. Swipe through AI flashcards, like the words you want, skip the ones you know. But unlike Tinder, we're built for commitment: everything you like enters a 4-round spaced repetition system that makes it stick for good. The new update closes the loop with widgets. The words you liked follow you to your home and lock screen, scheduled by the repetition engine, so your 100+ daily phone glances become review reps. No app open, no willpower needed.

We are two non-native English speakers who built this for ourselves first. Both of us learned English the hard way; memorizing word lists that were boring, forgettable, and built for someone else's brain. There is no one way to remember a word, because everyone's memory hooks onto something different. One of us loves history. For him, a word sticks when he knows where it came from, so every word in the app carries its etymology and origin story on a world map. Words stop being random letters and become little pieces of history. The other is a visual learner. Definitions slide right off him, but a vivid image does not. So every word gets an AI generated mnemonic image, a slightly absurd scene that is hard to unsee and therefore hard to forget. And because word lists bored us both, we made learning feel like swiping: like the words you want, skip the ones you know, and let spaced repetition handle the rest. The new widget takes it further by putting your next scheduled word on your lock screen, where you are already looking 100 times a day. We built the vocabulary app that finally worked for our two very different brains. Our bet is that if it works for both of us, there is a hook in it for yours too :)
