Virga

Run Apex and SOQL from a scratch tab with Ctrl+S

Free VS Code extension for Apex devs. Open a scratch, write Apex or SOQL, hit Ctrl+S and get debug lines, limits or a result table. Close the tab and it is gone. Plus local type completion and quick fixes for signatures that break completion.

I write Apex for a living. Trying out three lines of code meant either the Developer Console in the browser or a file in scripts/apex that you have to remember not to commit. I wanted what IntelliJ has with scratch files: open a tab, type, run, close, forget. That's the first half of Virga. Two buttons in the status bar, Ctrl+S runs the scratch against your default org, and the output is colored: debug lines with line numbers, the governor limits you used, SOQL as a table. Closing the tab deletes the file, no "save changes?" prompt. The second half came from the Apex language server. Some signatures, like a raw List parameter on an @InvocableMethod, silently kill completion in the whole file, and all you get is a misleading syntax error. I ran 274 signatures through the same server jar VS Code uses. Virga flags only the shapes that actually broke it and offers a quick fix. After the fix, completion came back in 180 of the 181 broken cases. No telemetry, no network code, MIT. Works in VS Code, Cursor and anything on Open VSX. If you find a signature that breaks completion and Virga stays quiet, open an issue. VS Code: https://marketplace.visualstudio... Cursor / VSCodium (Open VSX): https://open-vsx.org/extension/W...
