ViMoMag

Free tool to detect invisible movements with just a camera

Deploying physical sensors are the standard way to measure structural or mechanical vibration but can be expensive/insufficient — you need one sensor per measurement point, installation access, calibration, maintenance, etc. Motion magnification offers an alternative: amplifies sub-pixel motions in a video and turns them into visible movement.

The commercial versions of this (Iris M, MIDAS) work well but are priced for big businesses and MNCs. Open source tools exist as well but they require a good engineer specialized in computer vision or signal processing. Since the state of art algorithm is patented (Eulerian approach) and expensive to license, I used a Lagrangian approach which is not as robust but for initial diagnostics, academic work, or resource-constrained engineering teams, it produces useful results
