Umbr - Media Protection against Cameras
Smart photos & videos that resist external cameras
Umbr creates camera-resistant photos and videos using real-time ML-driven rendering. Content looks normal to the human eye, but breaks when captured by external cameras. No screenshots, no re-recording, no leaks. Built for private sharing, secure communication, and full control over your media.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
We built Umbr after realizing something uncomfortable - even if you block screenshots, nothing stops someone from just filming your screen with another device.
That’s the real leak.
So we built a different approach.
Umbr uses real-time rendering to make photos and videos look completely normal to your eyes…
but degrade heavily when captured by external cameras.
👉 Not watermarking
👉 Not DRM
👉 Not encryption after the fact
It’s protection at the visual layer itself
Right now we’re focused on:
private sharing
sensitive media
content you don’t want copied or re-recorded
But the bigger idea is simple:
What if media could decide how it’s seen - and how it can’t be captured?
Would love your feedback:
Where would you actually use this?
What would stop you from trusting it?
Note: This increases user protection substantially, but still under development. As our models and tech improves so with user protection.
Happy to answer anything 🙌
