Hello folks, My Name is Brian. Please accept my apologies that this App is only useful to residents of, or visitors to the UK
I first started looking at creating the NHS Dentist Watch app when news articles started appearing everywhere about the shortage of NHS Dentists all over the UK. I was aware that a few areas had NO NHS dentists at all, but was shocked to find out it was a nationwide problem.
I tried searching a few random areas, then directed my searches to the areas that were being featured in the media. I found out that, Yes, there is a shortage of NHS Dentists in the UK and some areas could even be described as having a scarcity of Dentists.
To my surprise, I couldn't find a link between these shortages and the Socio-Economic demographics. So there is obviously something else wrong.
I looked at area maps, regional population and the locality of dentists to compare the well serviced areas with the scarce areas.
There was only One apparent similarity in some areas, which then became a distinction between most of the scarce areas and the well serviced areas, Some of these areas were less than 5 miles apart.
KNOWLEDGE..
Most people in the UK don't actually know the best ways to find a dentist other than to sit-down with the local phone book and ring around for hours on end.
So I set about creating a database of all UK dentists and who were accepting NHS Patients. The information of most dentists was out-of-date, sometimes by up to 3 Years.
But with the help of Gemini 3.5, Google search, Hostinger interfaces, Google Cloud Run, Google Maps, Google Anycast, Not forgetting the Gemini 3.5 AI Agent, who I tortured, several time a day, every day, NHS Dentist Watch was soon a work in progress.
Taking into account UK Privacy Laws, data protection, KYC regulations, and the fact that I'm pretty much a novice at this, (not pretty, but, very much a novice), I decided to Cut all these worries out and make the APP Free to all (even the dentists).
we do have a donation link which people a free to ignore. and there are a few advertising spaces (max 2 per results page. There is also the option for dentists to have their listing highlighted for a small cost. I anticipate that these options will generate enough income to pay for the running costs
No registration - there isn't any where to register on the app, so no registration is possible.
The only Information Required is a Postcode.
