I really appreciate it when services open source their software when they shut down. There's so many amazing sites, software, games, are gone forever because there's no way to access it or replicate it. Trinket.io did exactly that, and now Strive Math have decided to host it for free at trinket.strivemath.org Made for educators, kept alive by educators: no paywalls, no cost. Run Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and p5.js in your browser, share it with your students, and know it's here to stay.
Trinket.io was build almost 13 years ago, so it's server-rendered Node/Hapi app with an older Angular/jQuery frontend, plus Dockerized execution services for code runtimes.
It's interesting to see AI try to work with old code and try to modernize it. Spoiler: Doesn't do the best job. We've already migrated the database from a self contained MongoDB to Supabase. Eventually we'll modernize the frontend and host it on vercel. Any advice or support is greatly appreciated!
