Trend Watcher

Google Trends, always visible in your Chrome sidebar

Trend Watcher puts Google's trending searches in a Chrome side panel, always one glance away — no tab-switching needed. It polls Google Trends, flags new topics with a "NEW" badge, and notifies you when a trend spikes or a watched word appears. Mute what you don't care about, watch what you do, and pop a mini trend list into a floating always-on-top window, even outside the browser. Built for marketers, writers, and streamers. Data stays in local Chrome storage only. Free, no account needed.

Top comment

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built Trend Watcher because I kept opening the Google Trends site out of habit, just to see "what's happening right now" — and it got old fast. I wanted that information living quietly in my browser instead. A few things I'm proud of under the hood: - Google Trends has no official API, just a public RSS feed that can change or break without notice — so the whole thing is built to degrade gracefully (shows last-known data, backs off on failures, never crashes silently). - I actually logged 24 hours of snapshots before building anything, to check whether the feed's order really reflects "popularity" (it doesn't — it's closer to recency). That saved me from shipping a fake "ranking" feature. - The floating always-on-top window uses the Document Picture-in-Picture API, which turned out to have some fun undocumented quirks to work around. Would love to hear what you think, and happy to answer anything about the Chrome extension dev side too.

Who hunted Trend Watcher?

Trend Watcher was hunted by Arima.Dev.Lab. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
