TransPeek
Translate any iPhone app in a floating window, on-device
TransPeek puts a small floating window over whatever app you're using. It reads the text next to it and shows each sentence with its translation, so you never copy, switch apps or long-press again. Rare words are highlighted for language learners. A fixed-region mode handles subtitles and game dialogue. 20 languages, any pair. OCR and translation both run on the device: no account, no cloud, works offline. 3-day trial, then a one-time purchase.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm the developer of TransPeek. I built it because reading anything in a second language on a phone goes the same way every time: long-press a word, look it up, close the popup, find your place again, lose the thread.
TransPeek works differently. You start it once, then use any app as usual. A small floating window reads the text right next to it and shows each sentence with its translation, the original above. Scroll or turn the page and it catches up in about a second.
A few things I cared about:
• Private. Text recognition (Vision) and translation (Apple's Translation framework) both run on your iPhone. Your screen is never uploaded, and it works in airplane mode once the language is downloaded.
• For learners. It marks the less common words in each sentence and numbers the matching words in the translation. Set your reader level per language and it only marks what you're likely not to know.
• Two modes. A floating window for books, web pages and chats, and a fixed region for subtitles and game dialogue that always sit in the same place.
• Quick to start. Control Center, Siri, Shortcuts, plus "Take Screenshot → Translate Screenshot".
Honest limits: it's machine translation, so literary sentences can come out stiff. iOS asks you to confirm the screen broadcast every time. Apps that block screen recording won't work. It needs iOS 18+.
Pricing: 3-day free trial that starts with your first translation, not at install. After that it's a one-time purchase, no subscription.
I'd love feedback, especially on the rare-word highlighting. What would you read with it first?
