Translate Like Me
Translate selected text on Mac, in your own writing style
A menu bar app for macOS. Select text in any app, press a shortcut, and it is replaced with the translation. The direction between your two languages is detected automatically, and each pair can have its own writing style. Runs on Claude, ChatGPT or Grok, through the subscription you already have or your own API key. Free and open source.
I write in Russian and English every day, and I kept doing the same loop: copy the text, paste it into a chat, ask for a translation that sounds like me, paste it back. So I built a menu bar app that does the loop on one shortcut.
Select text in any app, press the pair's shortcut (Option+Cmd+F by default), and the selection is replaced with the translation. The direction is detected on each call: text in the pair's first language goes to the second, anything else goes to the first.
Each pair can carry its own writing style. I keep one Russian/English pair with my style for my own messages and a second plain one for other people's text.
It runs on the subscription you already pay for. The app calls the official CLIs (claude -p, codex exec, grok -p) as subprocesses. For claude, turning off tools, MCP servers and session history took a call from 10k+ input tokens and 5 to 8 seconds down to about 150 tokens and 2.4 seconds on Sonnet. API keys work too for Claude and OpenAI.
No server, no analytics. Swift, Apache 2.0, signed and notarized, updates in place with Sparkle. Install with Homebrew: brew install --cask wiltodelta/tap/translate-like-me
What would you want it to do that it doesn't yet?
