TranscriptSnap

YouTube transcripts, minus the timestamps and the signup

YouTube's transcript comes out as timestamped, repeated, [Music]-littered fragments. TranscriptSnap cleans it into readable paragraphs you can copy or download — and makes zero network requests. No account, no server, no tracking. It all runs in your browser.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built TranscriptSnap because a friend of mine was made redundant and decided to start a YouTube channel. When I visited him, I found him deleting timestamps out of a video transcript. By hand. One line at a time, about forty minutes in — and not even on his own video. He was studying the ones doing well in his niche, which is exactly what every guide tells a new creator to do. Nobody mentions the transcript comes out like this: 0:12 so the first thing you want to do is 0:14 [Music] 0:15 so the first thing you want to do is 0:17 open up the settings panel and then Two-second fragments, a timestamp on every line, the rolling ones repeated, sound cues dropped mid-sentence. I looked for a tool. Dozens exist — and nearly all wanted an account, an email, and your video link uploaded to their server. For a text-cleaning job. The transcript is already in the page; your browser rendered it. So I built the boring version over a weekend. TranscriptSnap makes zero network requests. Not one. No server, no account, no API key, no analytics. It reads what your browser already has, cleans it in memory — timestamps stripped, duplicates removed, [Music] gone, fragments joined into paragraphs — and lets you copy it or download a .txt. You can verify all of this: open dev tools, watch the Network tab, use it. The source is public and short. It's free and staying free. It solves one small problem well. The hardest bug, if anyone's curious: my extraction got so good at finding transcript rows structurally that it started scooping up the invisible duration labels YouTube adds for screen readers — so every line came out as "0 seconds You think the people hiring you…". Fixing it without also eating captions that genuinely start with a number was the fiddly part. Happy to answer anything about the build, the privacy design, or where it goes next. And if you've ever tried to get clean text out of a YouTube video, I'd love to know if this saves you the afternoon it saved my friend.
