What inspired me to build this?
Over a year ago, I started logging four core daily metrics across my work and personal life: deep work hours, words written, meditation minutes, and revenue. Every spreadsheet or traditional habit tracker I used eventually died. Standard habit apps only answer one simple question: "Did I do it today?" But as a founder, I didn't just want a grid of green checkmarks or daily streak counts, I wanted to know where my daily habits were actually taking me over the next 1 to 5 years.
What problem was I trying to solve?
Most people wildly overestimate what they can accomplish in two weeks, but deeply underestimate what compounds over two years. Without visual feedback on compound growth, it’s easy to quit early. I wanted to build a tool that uses math rather than vague motivation. Trajectory projects your future outputs using exponential forecasting based on your actual logged data. More importantly, it solves the "cost of quitting" problem through a feature I call The Ghost Path. While the main chart projects where you’ll land if you stay consistent, the dashed Ghost Path shows the exponential decay of what happens if you stop today. The gap between those two lines is the ultimate anti-procrastination visual.
How did the approach evolve while building for launch?
Initially, Trajectory was just a raw forecasting tool for numeric growth. But as we tested it with early users, we realised three key things: Correlation matters: Tracking input habits side-by-side with output goals revealed patterns (e.g., revenue hockey-sticking right as deep work crossed 3+ hours/day). Loss aversion drives action: People responded far more emotionally to seeing their Ghost Path than just looking at optimistic target lines.
