tlgr

CLI to manage your Telegram

tlgr is an open-source CLI that gives you and your AI agents full control of your real Telegram account from the terminal. 678 operations cover 99.5% of Telegram's features, every command speaks JSON, and a background daemon pushes live events to your agent through signed webhooks. Agents can read and draft replies while you keep the send button.

Top comment

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built tlgr because I wanted my AI agents to work with Telegram the way I do: from my real account, in my chats, my folders, my groups. Not a bot with its own separate inbox. Bots can't read your DMs or act as you, and the user-account libraries leave you writing the same glue code over and over. tlgr is that glue, done once and done carefully: • 678 operations, one command each: from tlgr send to stories, polls, folders, admin tools and more (99.5% of Telegram's feature catalog) • --json on every command, --no-input for CI, and --enable-commands allowlists to sandbox what an agent may do • A daemon that holds the connection and pushes live events (114 types) to your agent over HMAC-signed webhooks, or to your terminal with tlgr watch • tlgr draft set: your agent writes the reply, you read it and press send from any Telegram app Because it's your real account, it's careful by default. It never spends money or Stars, secrets never go in argv, sessions are stored 0600, and destructive commands support --dry-run. The fair question: will Telegram ban me for this? tlgr talks to Telegram through the official MTProto API with an API ID you register yourself, the same way third-party clients do. Telegram's anti-spam rules still apply, so automate your own workflows, not bulk messaging. Install: pipx install tlgr-cli It's free and MIT-licensed. I'd love to hear what you'd automate first, and which commands you'd want an agent to have (or never have).
