Tintenfisch
A free, open source Acrobat that never sees your files
Tintenfisch is a PDF editor that runs entirely in your browser. Edit the actual text, comment, sign, redact, fill forms and password-protect files. The PDF engine is written from scratch in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. Free, open source, no uploads, no account.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I got tired of two options for editing PDFs: pay Adobe every month, or upload my lease, my bank details and my contracts to some random “free PDF editor” website.
So I built Tintenfisch. The whole PDF engine is written from scratch in Rust and runs as WebAssembly in your browser. Your file never leaves your device. There is no server that could see it.
What it does:
Edit the actual text in a PDF, not a box pasted on top
Comments, highlights, sticky notes
Sign, fill out forms, build forms
Redaction that removes the text from the file, not just a black box over it
Password protection with AES-256
Comments, forms and passwords are saved in the standard PDF format, so they open in Acrobat and every other reader.
It’s MIT licensed, the code is on GitHub. I’d love to hear which PDFs break it. That’s the most useful feedback I can get right now.

Who hunted Tintenfisch?
Tintenfisch was hunted by Arif Kobel. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
