Honestly, it started with frustration. I realized how much of my personal life was sitting on someone else’s servers. Notes, ideas, habits, things that feel private were constantly being pushed into the cloud by default. And it’s been normalized. You’re expected to trade privacy for convenience like that’s just the deal. At some point I started questioning it. Why should something as personal as your life data live anywhere other than with you? That question stayed with me, and eventually it turned into building ThearumOS. I wasn’t trying to build just another productivity app. The real issue is ownership. Most systems today rely on accounts, servers, and constant syncing. That creates dependency, adds friction, and more importantly, it means your data is never fully yours. I wanted to remove that completely. A system that runs on your machine, keeps everything local, and doesn’t quietly send your data somewhere else. No tracking, no hidden layers, no compromises. Just something fast, private, and fully under your control. In the beginning, I was focused mostly on the technical side. Making everything local, making it fast, avoiding any server dependency. But as I kept building, I realized something important. If it’s not simple, people won’t use it. So I started cutting things down. Anything unnecessary or overly complex got removed. Anything that felt like it depended on external systems got rethought. The goal became making it feel natural, like it’s just your own system working for you. Over time, the philosophy became really clear. If it doesn’t respect your ownership, it doesn’t belong.
