I wanted to stay out the web analytics market for as long as possible, because there are multiple competitors in there who I really respect a lot. App analytics is a great niche and we do that better than anyone else.
But then we recently played around with different refactoring options for the existing JS SDK and by accident stumbled on the perfect way to ingest analytics data from regular websites. With just a tiny change, we suddenly had something resembling web analytics.
Just out of curiosity I tried to build a user interface for it and found out that there is SOOO much work to draw on β our existing modular user interface libraries, the way we manage insights and queries, and the TelemetryDeck Query Language.
And soon me and Lisa Figas realized: we can actually provide something valuable with this! Existing customers for apps can now easily add their websites to TD as well. And new customers with just a website now not only get a cool overview screen, but access to the huge catalog of features we've built up for app analytics, including realtime data, custom dashboards, and a visual query editor to get exactly the data they need.
So yeah, today we're releasing TelemetryDeck for Web. Read or blog post to get started!
