I built Sygal because I kept converting documents for my own RAG and note-taking workflows, and hated the two options out there: CLI-only libraries with no interface (MarkItDown, Docling), or SaaS tools that require uploading sensitive files to someone else's server.
Sygal converts PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, scanned images, web pages and more into clean Markdown and JSON, entirely on your machine. OCR runs through your own API key (OpenAI, Claude, Mistral, NVIDIA NIM, Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint), so nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to. There is also a CLI built to be driven by AI agents just as easily as by a human.
