AI coding agents can edit code, but backend APIs are spread across routes, handlers, validators, models, and response logic. Sydes-test was inspired by the need to understand that structure before generating useful tests. This is a cli only tool, open-source and you will need LLM key to generate integration tests.
Hey Product Hunt — I’m Karim, the builder of Sydes-test.
What this does?
Sydes-test is an open-source CLI that analyzes backend API code and turns it into:
- API contracts
- structured test cases
- Postman collections and environments
This open source cli tool was built as part of DevPost hackathon - OpenAI Build Week. The aim is to give developers a cli tool to generate reliable integration tests.
You can run these tests manually from Postman or integrate with CD/CI using Postman CLI.
How this works?
Sydes-test tries to understand that structure first.
It uses deterministic code analysis wherever possible, then optionally calls an LLM only for unresolved gaps. The model only receives route-specific evidence, and its output cannot overwrite stronger deterministic facts.
It currently supports tested flows across Express, FastAPI, and Spring Boot.
I’d especially love feedback on three things:
- Are the generated contracts accurate enough to be useful?
- Are the generated test cases actually meaningful?
- Where would this fit best in your workflow: local development, CI, API testing, or coding agents?
