AI coding assistant in IntelliJ, PyCharm, and JetBrains IDEs
Sweep is an AI coding assistant purpose-built for JetBrains IDEs. We bring features like multi-file code "apply" and automatic context awareness into a secure, on-prem ready AI plugin for JetBrains.
Back in 2023, Kevin and I went through Y Combinator (Summer '23 batch) and originally built Sweep as a bot to turn GitHub issues into pull requests.
It sounded great, but it was really challenging. We just couldn't reach the level of reliability and usability we aimed for.
Last December, we decided things weren't working out. We needed to try something different.
💡 After talking with our users, we discovered something surprising:
JetBrains users were consistently unhappy 😕 with their AI coding experience. The existing plugins simply didn't have the features or smoothness that VSCode users enjoyed with Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
Even though we weren't originally JetBrains users ourselves, we jumped in to experience it firsthand - and quickly understood the frustration. We noticed a real gap because all of the AI code generation companies were (and still are!) laser focused on winning VSCode. It felt like an important problem that wasn't getting the attention it deserved.
So we pivoted and built a JetBrains-focused AI assistant. It's something we genuinely enjoy using every day, and early feedback from users has been amazing.
🎉 We're really excited to finally share Sweep with everyone today!

Who hunted Sweep AI?
Sweep AI was hunted by Garry Tan. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
