We have been building UI components since 2011 (jQWidgets,
htmlelements.com). Every grid we shipped before this one was framework-agnostic
with a thin adapter per framework. SvGrid is the opposite bet: written for
Svelte 5 runes from the first line, with nothing to adapt.
What that buys you concretely: the headless engine is ~2 KB gzipped and holds
state in runes, so you compose it into your own markup and reactivity just
works. Drop in instead and you get the rendered component at ~78 KB
plus ~9 KB of CSS, SSR included (SvelteKit server-renders the header and a
viewport window of rows).
The part I most want feedback on is the MCP server. Point Claude, Cursor, or Zed
at @svgrid/mcp and the model gets version-pinned prop, method, and event names
plus the source of 373 live demos as grounding. Ask for "a grid grouped by
region with a sparkline per row and a filter bar" and the code it writes runs,
instead of inventing props that were never in the API. There is also an
llms.txt and an Agent Skill if you would rather not run a server.
On the open core, so nobody gets surprised after wiring it in: @svgrid/grid is
MIT with no license key, no row cap, and no watermark. Row and column
virtualization (there is a 1M-row demo), Excel-style filtering, 15 inline
editor types, cell-range selection with copy/paste and a fill handle, row
grouping with aggregation, tree data, master/detail, undo/redo, find-in-grid,
the server-side row model, the AI helpers, and a Svelte 5 UI component suite
are all in that free package. A commercial pack adds Excel/PDF export, import,
print, pivot tables, and the Kanban and scheduler renderers, and that is what
funds the work. OSS projects on an OSI-approved license get the pack free.

If you build on SvelteKit, I would especially like to hear where the headless
API feels awkward. That surface is still young and easier to change now than
later.
