sujo - ASCII Aquarium

A living ASCII aquarium in your Mac

A living ASCII planted tank for your Mac. Fish made of characters drift over a hairgrass meadow, in a small liquid-glass card floating on your desktop. Click the tank to drop food and the school converges; swirl your cursor and the fish gather, like you touched a real aquarium. Connect Claude Code or Codex, and the moment a task finishes, confetti bursts in that AI’s colors. Settings live in your menu bar. No accounts, no network, no data collection. And no, of course it’s not a subscription :)

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

"sujo" started as a tiny experiment.

When Fable came out, I was bored and thought it would be fun to have a little digital aquarium running in my terminal. So I made one, with ASCII fish swimming through a planted meadow, and posted a demo on Threads without thinking much of it.

It got over 10,000 views on its first day! (now at 28,061 views!)

One reply in particular caught my eye:

“Please make this a Mac app.”

So I did.

I’ve been turning that terminal toy into "sujo" ever since. I also use Claude Code and Codex a lot, and wanted a small signal when a long task finally finished. That’s why sujo has `sujo://done`: when an agent finishes, the tank feeds the fish and celebrates with confetti in its colors.

There’s a small meaning behind the name, too. sujo is the romanized form of the Korean word 수조 (水槽)수 (水)means “water,” while 조 (槽) means a tank or container. Together, the word refers to an aquarium — a small tank for fish and aquatic life — which felt right for a tiny aquarium quietly living on your desktop.

Thanks for taking a look at the little aquarium that started as a bored afternoon experiment.
