I'm a solo developer from Japan. Most of what I build is small, privacy-first iPhone utilities that keep everything on-device - a face-sorting album, a birthday-photo organizer, a camera that blurs faces and plates automatically. Still Box is the one that started it: a vault for the photos and videos you don't want sitting in your regular camera roll.
The thing that bothered me about most "secret album" apps is that a lot of them quietly want a cloud account, a subscription, or both - which is a strange ask for an app whose entire pitch is "nobody else should see this." So Still Box has none of that. No sign-up, no server, no sync. Everything is encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stays on your device; delete the app and it's gone everywhere, because there was never anywhere else for it to be.
A few things I put real work into:
- Every photo and video is encrypted at rest, not just hidden behind a UI lock.
- GPS, device, and timestamp metadata gets stripped on import automatically.
- Face ID / passcode unlock, with instant auto-lock the moment you background the app - no grace period.
- Albums with custom names and icons, so you can actually organize instead of dumping everything in one pile.
