I built StarCrop because of a small, frustrating moment.
I recorded my son running at the park — vertical, because that's how you naturally hold a phone. Later I cast it to our TV to watch as a family, and there it was: my son squeezed into a tiny strip in the middle, two huge black bars on either side. The moment I loved was technically "fine," but it didn't feel full anymore.
I realized the real problem happens BEFORE you record. The second you pick vertical or landscape, you've already thrown away everything outside that frame. There's no getting it back.
So I flipped the workflow. StarCrop records the full 4:3 sensor area — the whole open gate — and lets you decide the framing afterwards. Vertical for Reels, wide for TV or YouTube, all from one shot. On-screen guides show you both crops live while filming, so your subject always fits.
The hardest part wasn't the cropping — it was making "shoot first, decide later" feel natural instead of like extra work. Early testers thought it was a tool to rescue old footage. It's not. It's a way to shoot so you never have to choose again.
