StackHandoff
Move machines. Keep your dev workspace.
StackHandoff is a peer-to-peer desktop app that lets developers continue an active workspace on another computer. It captures projects, Git branches, uncommitted changes, apps, runtimes, tools, and environment requirements as a portable manifest—then securely restores them on the destination machine. No cloud account, no central server, and every restore step is reviewed before it runs. Mac ↔ Windows, encrypted by design, open source.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built StackHandoff because switching computers as a developer is still surprisingly painful.
Your code may already be in Git, but your actual working session is much more than a repository — it includes the branch you’re on, uncommitted changes, projects you have open, development tools, runtimes, applications, and all the little pieces of context needed to start working again.
StackHandoff turns that working state into a portable workspace manifest and sends it directly to another paired machine over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection.
On the destination machine, you get a restore plan before anything happens. You can review what will be opened, restored, skipped, or offered as a command. Git working-tree changes are transferred as a patch so your in-progress work can continue instead of being flattened into a copied folder.
There’s no StackHandoff cloud account, no central workspace server, and no silent command execution.
The current focus is Mac ↔ Windows developer workflows, and the project is open source.
I’d especially love feedback from developers who regularly switch between a work laptop, personal machine, desktop, or travel computer:
What part of your development environment is the most annoying to rebuild when you move to another machine?

Who hunted StackHandoff?
StackHandoff was hunted by Abhishek dana. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
