Spiralens

Golden ratio camera that tells you where to move your phone

Spiralens is an Android camera for people who never learned composition. Tap your subject, follow the arrow, and shoot when the ring turns green: the subject sits on the golden point and the phone is level. Guides for golden spiral, phi grid, rule of thirds, symmetry and horizon. The editor adds a golden-ratio crop, straighten, drag-to-crop and a new background blur that keeps your target sharp. Works offline; photos never leave your phone.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm the developer. Most phone photos I take with friends have the same problems: a head cut off at the top, a crooked horizon, the subject jammed into a corner. Camera grids show lines, but they never tell you which way to move. So I built a camera that does. How it works: you tap the thing you're shooting, the app follows that spot, and an arrow tells you which way to move the phone. When the ring turns green, the subject is on the guide and the phone is steady. You can still shoot any time, green or not. What's new in 0.2.0: background blur in the editor (your target stays sharp, you choose how soft the rest gets), dashed rings that suggest targets you can tap, and drag-to-crop for 4:5 and square. Honest notes: - The golden ratio is a habit of photographers, not proof of a better photo. Treat it as practice for your eye. - Tracking can lose plain surfaces or fast movement, and some phones give it more trouble than others. If the ring never turns green on your phone, I'd really like to hear the model. - It's free with ads and a faint mark on saved photos; a one-time purchase removes both. - Android only for now. Photos stay on the phone; anonymous usage counts can be turned off. I used an AI assistant to help write this post and parts of the code.
