Spectati started from a simple frustration: watching personal media and live TV on Apple devices still felt far more fragmented than it should.
Plex and Jellyfin are good at managing libraries, while IPTV apps focus on live channels, but switching between separate apps creates an inconsistent experience. Many existing players also feel dated, struggle with unstable streams, or do not take full advantage of Apple platforms and modern formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Atmos.
I wanted one polished, native app that could bring movies, shows and live TV together across Apple TV, Mac, iPhone and iPad. It needed to feel at home on each platform, keep progress and settings synchronized through iCloud, support offline viewing, and provide a reliable playback experience without forcing users into a new media ecosystem.
The project initially focused mainly on live TV, but it gradually evolved into a broader media hub. As I worked on playback stability, source compatibility and library organization, it became clear that the real problem was not just playing a stream—it was creating a coherent experience around all of a user’s existing media sources.
