SousCheff

Stop food waste with smart “cook what you’ve got” recipes

SousCheff is a small side project to solve a simple problem: standing in front of the fridge with no idea what to cook. I’m building an app where you paste in whatever ingredients you’ve got lying around, and it suggests realistic “cook what you already have” meals. I’m starting with a waitlist so I can talk to early users and shape it around real kitchens, not perfect recipe blog lives.

This came from a very normal problem for me: I’d open the fridge, see a bunch of random ingredients, and still feel like there was nothing to cook. I didn’t want another perfect recipe site. I wanted something that starts from my actual messy kitchen and works backwards. SousCheff is still in the waitlist stage. The idea is that you can see what you’ve got, keep track of what’s getting close to expiring, and then get simple meal ideas based on that. It’s meant to help with leftovers, random pantry stuff, and “use this before it goes bad” situations, not fancy chef‑level recipes. I’m keeping it small on purpose at first so I can talk to early users and build around how people really cook, not how they’re “supposed” to cook. Things I’d really love feedback on: Does this sound like a real problem you actually have, or is it just me? Are you more interested in the “what can I cook right now” part, the expiry tracking part, or both together? What would make you trust and use something like this every week instead of trying it once and forgetting about it? If you join the waitlist, you’ll get early access once it’s in a good enough state, and I might reach out for a quick chat about how you cook and what annoys you about food going to waste. I’m very open to honest reactions, be completely honest with me.
