SoundLax
Build your focus environment.
SoundLax is a focus and sleep app built around curated background sounds. It came from a simple frustration: keeping up with a focus app shouldn’t become another thing on your to-do list. SoundLax takes a different approach. The goal isn’t to build another productivity system. It’s to create an atmosphere that helps you settle into the task in front of you. Built in Aotearoa, with native birds woven throughout. No streaks, no challenges, no productivity scores, just sound that works.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋
SoundLax came from my own frustration. I struggle to focus and rely heavily on background noise, but my "library" was a mess: a rain video on YouTube here, a brown noise Spotify playlist there. They worked, but were scattered, inconvenient, and often limited depending on where I was.
I tried popular sound apps, but noticed they all follow the same pattern: they evolve into wellness platforms packed with features users never asked for: streaks, daily challenges, AI coaches, and self-care content. They become another app competing for your attention and time.
That's when I decided to build SoundLax: a sound app that does one thing really well: background noise + the tools you actually need to focus. Every sound is thoughtfully curated, tested for consistency and the kind of quality that doesn't wear on your ears after hours of listening (no crackling, sudden spikes, or jarring transitions). You can customise your environment sounds, set focus session or a sleep timer. Even our wake-up sounds are gentle and nature-based.
Every UX and design decision comes down to one goal: reduce friction. You should be able to tap once and start focusing instantly. SoundLax probably won't have the biggest library or the most features, and that's intentional. It might grow over time, but always with the same philosophy of simplicity.
As a New Zealand-based project, I've woven our unique soundscape into SoundLax through native birds. When people think of nature sounds, birdsong is often one of the first things that comes to mind, so I wanted it to become part of the app's identity. It's a small touch inspired by where I live, bringing a bit of local character and a more human feel to the experience.
In a saturated market, SoundLax might look like "just another sound app." But it's built with intention and care, designed for people who actually need a distraction-free sound experience.
Would love your feedback. Cheers!
