SottoCraft is a Windows desktop app for subtitle QC work. Unlike browser tools that upload your files or editors that cause sync drift, SottoCraft runs entirely local — no cloud, no subscription, no per-minute fees. I started this as an experiment to see what I could actually build with AI assistance — and ended up with something I'd genuinely use myself.
The core problem: every subtitle tool I tried either had sync drift when seeking, required a cloud subscription, or was priced for broadcast studios. I wanted something local, simple, and affordable for independent subtitlers and creators.
The biggest technical challenge was replacing the playback engine mid-development. The original cv2/ffplay approach caused 2-4 second audio drift on every seek — completely unreliable for QC work. Switching to VLC eliminated that entirely.
