Hey Product Hunt! I'm Prasoon, a mechanical engineer working on manufacturing/operations problems.
The inspiration was pretty direct: every shop floor I've worked around documents its procedures in Word docs or literal paper binders. Version control is "whoever has the latest file," and there's no real trail of who approved what, when. The enterprise tools that solve thisare subscription SaaS aimed at big teams, which doesn't fit a lot of smaller shops — especially ones on air-gapped or regulated networks where cloud tools aren't even an option.
So SOP Builder is local-first by design: everything lives in SQLite on your machine, no account, no cloud. Each SOP gets a unique ID, a revision history, and status/approver fields — worth being upfront that this is basic structured bookkeeping, not a full approval-workflow engine. I'd rather be honest about that than oversell it.
My approach shifted a lot during the build. I originally scoped it as just a text editor with export, but talking to people who actually write these docs, the two things that mattered most turned out to be (1) images with annotations for showing "turn this valve, not that one," and (2) a portable .sop export so a facility with no internet can hand a procedure to another site on a USB drive. Those became core, not afterthoughts.
It's alpha software, and I mean that — there will be rough edges. Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's actually run a shop floor or written real SOPs for a living.
