Skontro compares crypto exchanges by what a trade really costs: fee plus hidden spread, measured every hour on the live order books of eleven exchanges. Skontro is a price comparison for crypto exchanges. Not the advertised fee: the real cost of a trade, fee plus hidden spread, measured every hour on the live order books of eleven exchanges for 25 coins.
Why it matters: in August a $1,000 buy cost $4.17 all-in on the cheapest exchange and $12.29 on the most expensive, at the same hours. On USDT books the gap was 11x, because "zero fee" exchanges charge you in the spread. That is why I built a comparison that shows you, in real time, the real cost of one buy, so you can see at any moment where it costs less.
What you get, no account needed:
Compare: type your amount and coin, see every exchange ranked by what you actually receive.
Monthly True-Cost Index: permanent pages, JSON API, numbers you can cite a year from now. I store every measurement and publish it in this index to give the market an overview.
Reliability score per exchange, every point sourced and dated, with a clear methodology of what "reliability" means. Regulatory status is one part of it.
Withdrawal fees by network, with sources.
Move check: the cheapest route from an exchange to your wallet. This one gets overlooked easily.
Design: I really tried to build something pleasant to look at, without the usual crypto bling.
Fair by design: rankings are by units received, never by affiliate payout, and a unit test enforces it. Thin coverage gets no "cheapest" label, thin order books get no "most expensive" label, outages are printed on the page. By profession I am an auditor, so I will never let anything impair that objectivity. Facts speak, and the page is built so that this cannot change.
Free to compare. Pro (EUR 9.90/month) adds a portfolio view with exit costs. There is also a data licence for newsrooms and exchanges: the full hourly rows I measure for every order book in the comparison.
Last but not least: read-only, always. Skontro never holds a key that could trade. For the portfolio view it connects to your exchange with a read-only API key to show balances, and it will never route an order, because objectivity and data are the product.
